Supporting you to grow your own food…
My name is Duncan Cocking and from a young age I have been a keen gardener, growing fruit and veggies.
Passionate about reducing the impact of modern living on the environment, I actively promote a sustainable and organic approach to producing food. I do this through my own small business, Leaf, Root & Fruit.
I design low-maintenance, abundant, edible landscapes to support my clients in growing their own food. By looking to nature for inspiration and through careful site analysis I can design garden ecosystems that are resilient, low-maintenance and require little inputs of fertilizer or pesticides. Using the forest as a design inspiration, I can design edible forest gardens that require very little maintenance such as weeding, mulching or pruning. Of course, I also design our edible landscapes to be functional and aesthetic!
Our modern food supply network is fragile and supplies us with tasteless food that is low in nutrients and health benefits. Having your own edible garden provides you with fruit, veggies and herbs that are tastier, healthier and better quality than what’s on offer in the supermarket.
I have completed a Science Degree, majoring in Botany. I’ve added to this knowledge through completing a Permaculture Design Certificate an Advanced Permaculture Fruit Trees Management Certificate and an Edible Forest Garden Intensive.
In 2019 my young family and I transitioned from Melbourne to a 6 acre property in Kyneton (Central Victoria). Since 2019 we have been busy across the property developing a Permaculture inspired garden ecosystem. We have set up an onsite classroom and deliver workshops each month for the public to attend. Participant learning can be extended through on-site demonstrations in the orchard, kitchen garden and across other aspects of the property. Every Wednesday we host a volunteer internship program to help support and mentor others to lead fulfilled lives in touch with nature.
I am supported in my work by my partner Caryn as well as my extended family. I am motivated to help the regenerate the planet for the enjoyment of my young children Angus and Emily and for many more generations to come.
